BHS has now joined the ranks of Waitrose and Beales in leaving large empty shopping units in the centre of Horsham. Waitrose has moved across town to a new larger site but, a year after moving out, the Piries Place space is still vacant. Beales have been moved out and a new store, Dunelms, is said to be taking its place. Work is going on in the Forum unit this month. The Beales signage has come down but nothing new has gone up yet and the Dunelm store locator does not indicate that they are coming soon.

Now BHS have gone, finally closing a week ago for the last time. No signs of who might replace them and, in the uncertainty around the proposed redevelopment, perhaps retailers are holding fire.

The good news is that Starbucks, the Vapestore and CEX are creating new jobs in the West Street part of the town centre.
